A humble, useful tool to ensure good seed-to-soil contact when working with small seeds like snapdragon, poppies, carrots, thyme and kale etc. The weight of the tamper is all that is needed to compress the soil slightly.

I was first introduced to the tamper by Monty Don, the popular gardening host on the British TV show, Gardener's World. He guaranteed a higher germination rate of small seeds by just lightly dabbling the soil with the tamper after sowing in seed trays, containers, and garden beds.

We decided to make our own and tested it with many varieties of tiny seeds – snapdragons, carrots, poppies and aquilegias, etc. It works like a charm, and is much much more effective than my moist, muddy, sticky palm/fingers!

This soil tamper makes the perfect Christmas gift for gardeners of all level. Better yet, this will well position them to get their own seeds started without scrambling for tools last minute in the spring!

Made from FSC certified upcycled wood, this tamper measures 3.75" in width and 8" in length.
